Have you been away on any trips or travels lately? Where have you been? Who did you go with?

Trip to Edinburgh Zoo

Catherine, Lucy and Ross went for a trip to Edinburgh Zoo in March. It was a dry day but cool!

We got the bus straight to the zoo from Bridges, paid to get in and got a leaflet about what was on at the zoo that day. We decided to head up to see the big cats first. On the way up we passed the flamingos and the ring tailed lemurs, you could actually walk through their outdoor enclosure but none of them were out!

As we continued trekking up the hill we passed by the chimpanzees who were all out playing on their huge rope course and the polar bear. The polar bear is getting a new enclosure built so hopefully he'll look a bit happier soon.

The meer kats were really funny because they were just standing up on their hind legs staring at us and we couldn't work out how they couldn't escape from their enclosure! We had a good laugh when Ross went over to take a picture of the Pallas cat which was a bit bigger than a normal cat and very fluffy, when he leant up the glass to take the photo the cat leapt up against the glass and Ross screamed, very funny!!

We kept walking up past the other 'cats' until we got to the tiger enclosure. There was a huge waterfall in the enclosure and the tiger was pacing about at the top looking for lunch! We decided it was time for our lunch at this point so headed back down the huge hill to reenergise ourselves for the afternoon! We all had baked potatoes but Ross' combination of prawns, cheese and haggis was just too strange!!

After lunch we went for a look in the monkey house before the penguin parade was due to start. The monkeys were all very active swinging about and munching on fruit!

When we went round to see the penguins the keeper said that they'd put all the nesting rings in the enclosure and they'd just started opening the gates again this year so the penguins might not come out because there was too much going on. One of the penguins thought about coming out but changed its mind so no parade for us!

We were nearly finished our day at the zoo so we walked down through the painted hunting dogs enclosure, they were all running about chasing each other and looked lovely but apparently are very vicious!

A final toilet stop then on the bus back home - good fun had by all!
