Edinburgh Theatres

There are quite a few theatres in Edinburgh so here is some information on where they are and how to get in touch to find out what’s on.

Edinburgh Festival Theatre – specialises in Opera and Ballet performances and you can find it at 13/29 Nicolson Street, Edinburgh.

To get there on foot from Princes Street head up the North Bridge from the east end of Princes Street (the Balmoral Hotel is on the corner of Princes Street and North Bridge). The theatre is on the right hand side of the road; approximately 10 minutes walk from the east end of Princes Street.

The Kings Theatre – specialises in pantomimes and plays and you can find it at 2 Leven Street (Tollcross area). Edinburgh.

To get there on foot from Princes Street, turn up Lothian Road, the main road leading south of Princes Street at the west end (The Caledonian Hilton Hotel is on the corner of Princes Street and Lothian Road.) At the very top of Lothian Road, there is a large junction, with three forks (Tollcross) – take the right hand fork. The King’s Theatre is on the left hand side of the main road, about a two-minute walk from the junction. The King’s is approximately 15 minutes walk from the west end of Princes Street.

The Edinburgh Playhouse – specialises in musicals and ballets and you can find it at 18-22 Greenside Place, Edinburgh.

To get there on foot from the east end of Princes Street walk down Leith Street with St James Centre on your left and the Omni centre on your right, continue walking for 5 minutes and the theatre is on your right hand side.

The Royal Lyceum Theatre Company – specialises in drama productions and you can find it at 30B Grindlay Street, Edinburgh.

To get there on foot from Princes Street turn up Lothian Road, the main road leading south of Princes Street at the west end (The Caledonian Hilton Hotel is on the corner of Princes Street and Lothian Road.) and continue walking till you see the Usher Hall on your left (Sheraton hotel on your right), about a 5 minute walk, take a left past the Usher hall and the theatre is 30 seconds away.
