Homemaker The Homemaker post has been funded by East Lothian Council to provide a very practical, hands-on service to young people in East Lothian who are:
- In temporary accommodation and planning to move into permanent accommodation
- Local authority tenants
- Housing association tenants
- Private sector tenants
- Still at home but struggling to maintain themselves in the family home due to a lack of household and personal presentation skills
- In the throughcare and aftercare process
Bridges Project’s Homemaker aims to prevent homelessness by:
- Enabling young people to manage their housing transitions
- Assisting them to develop the key household management and community integration skills required to sustain their tenancies, other accommodation options or to remain in the family home
- Encouraging them to develop community supports and appropriate social networks
The service is delivered on a one-to-one basis and where relevant in a group work setting. The Homemaker has a task oriented approach to the development of household and personal management skills and provides added value to the work of existing support and case-work services. The service is delivered on an outreach basis and, subject to reasonable risk assessment, within the young person’s home. All young people, including lone parents and unmarried couples are eligible for the service.
