Way2Work

The Way2Work service is available to young people in both East Lothian and Midlothian. This service uses supportive local employers to provide flexible opportunities for unpaid work practice placements. The aim of the service is to help young people to acquire the 'soft' employability skills which are so valued by employers.
Our Way2Work team will assist young people to prepare for a work practice placement, support them and the employer involved in the placement and ensure that young people have every chance to understand the realities of work.
The placement could be in any occupational sector and concentrates on developing, planning and organising, working with others, using initiative, leading, taking positive risks, learning, thinking critically and creatively and problem solving skills. Young people can opt to start the programme slowly and build up their attendance over time. Some young people do only a couple of hours a week; others can do virtually full-time. Placements can last for two weeks up to a year if needed. There is no involvement in vocational qualifications and there is no obligation on the part of the employer to offer employment at the end of the placement.
“I wish Way2Work was open to more people as I think it’s brilliant – all kids could do with this! They do such a lot of practical stuff, like how to dress appropriately, and it’s really tailored to the individual. I’ve been very impressed and now that I’ve got to know the project better I hope to be able to tap into what Bridges have to offer for some of our teenage parents.”
