Bridges Clients are Scottish Learning Partnership Award Semi-finalists

On Thursday 31 March 2011 a roll call of honour for Learning Awards semi-finalists was held at Pollock Halls in Edinburgh. Among those on that roll call were Hendry Ross and Kyle Storrie – two young men who have made maximum use over the last few years of the opportunities offered at Bridges Project and who have both now moved on to full employment, self-reliance and an adult life as contributors, not only in their own family circles, but also in society.
CROFTON AWARDS

At an awards ceremony in Edinburgh in November the 2010 Crofton Award winner was announced as Bridges Project, based in East Lothian, and supported by Lothians based Fast Forward, a national voluntary organisation which promotes health and well-being through education by, with and for young people.
The judges said that the project fully deserved the Crofton Award for both the standard of their work and the development of the young people during their project the 'Journey of a Cigarette'. The project involved the young people looking at all aspects of tobacco, including farming, marketing, smoking, addiction, role of the media, and the health impacts of tobacco.
The judges also stated that they were particularly pleased to see that this project had increased the confidence and understanding of the young people, given them a sense of pride in their work and achievements, and given them creative and employability skills which they can use in the future.
